The Prodigal

A 12-week study/ministry to care for and support the families of children and other loved ones who are wandering from God and living as a prodigal.

The prodigal is a ministry to care for and support families of children and loved ones who are wandering from God.

  • Do you have chaos in your life because someone you love is not walking with the Lord?
  • Has your faith been battered and bruised and maybe even shipwrecked on the rocks of your prodigals behavior and choices?
  • Does your life feel unpredictable, unstable and sometimes past the point of hope?
  • Do you feel alone, isolated, guilty and ashamed especially around other believers?

It is easy to lose hope when you live life with a prodigal. You have tried and said everything you can. You have reached out, bent over backwards, and sacrificed to get them back on the right path with little to no return. Furthermore, your prodigal's choices impact you deeply. It is painful and exhausting. But there is hope. Whether you realize it or not, God wants to know you. He desires an intimate relationship with you and wants to help you through this season of great difficulty. He is where you find refuge in chaos and comfort in pain. He is where your healing begins.

This ministry is built on the belief that regardless of your prodigals’s behavior you can lead yourself and your family well, possess great joy, always have reason for hope, and find great satisfaction in life through God.  During the meetings discussions will cover common topics such as…

  • Suffering
  • Looking for Hope
  • Family Dynamics
  • Processing Emotions
  • Boundaries
  • Healthy Conflict
  • Forgiveness
  • Walking with Christ

The focus of this ministry is not to fix your child, spouse or family member. Prodigal is not for them but for you. It is for your healing and your relationships and ultimately for your growth and maturity in the Lord. Expect ups and downs, just like with any recovery journey. Success in this ministry is not ultimately measured by your prodigal’s recovery journey but by yours.

Support for Families of Prodigals

Faqs

What should I expect at a group meeting?

Each week we will view a 30 minute video teaching on the current topic in our Prodigal book. Then your small group will discuss the video and the homework your did during the week. We will also take time to share and pray for each other in our small group time.

Will I be asked a lot of personal questions?

While we welcome participation in the discussions you are free to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

Can I attend by myself?

If you are married and your prodigal is your child, it’s strongly encouraged to attend together if at all possible so that both of you will be on the same page.

Is childcare available?

Yes, we offer childcare but we will need to reserve a space for you. Please let us know this is a need when you register.

Can I just come and visit, or do I have to commit to something?

Once the class is full we will be closing registration so please be prepared to commit to the full 13 weeks. The lessons build on each other and it is important to be able to attend all classes if possible.

How long does the class last?

The class will meet for 13 weeks beginning with a welcome meet and greet where you will be given your books, meet your other classmates and briefly hear each other’s stories. You will leave encouraged, knowing there is hope and you are not alone.

Is there homework? How long will it take me?

Yes, there is homework but as is so often the case, the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. It could take one hour or 4, depending on how you relate to the subject matter, the time you spend in prayer, reading the Scriptures in the lesson and praying over the material.

Is there a cost to attend?

We ask for a donation of $20.00 to cover the cost of the workbook.
